Good physical fitness is necessary for this tour because several challenging ascents must be overcome on this heights tour. The trail leads over an old, legendary smugglers' path on the border between Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate up to the Schimmelkopf, a height of 2,280 ft/694.8 m. Hikers who undertake this endeavor will be rewarded by nature in all its glory: a diversity of flora in dense, pristine forests, isolated paths, and natural peace and quiet create a feeling of complete solitude.

The trail was assessed with 52 adventure points by the German Hiking Institute.
