The 114 mi/180 km long, cross-border Saar-Hunsrück Climb extends in Rhineland-Palatinate and in Saarland through the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, about 793 mi²/2,055 km². The Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park lies in the heart of Europe between the Moselle and the Rhine in the "Three Corners" of Germany, France, and Luxembourg. The Greater Protected Area is impressive for its charming, diversified river and mountain landscape in the Hunsrück and in the Saar, Nied, Ruwer, and Nahe Valleys.
The natural and man-made landscape in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park is many-facetted owing to the extensive forested areas, a diversity of species in the meadows, hedgerows, and small arbors, the river and rugged, romantic brook valleys, moors, and the characteristic bizarre rock formations. A wealth of flora and fauna find their habitat here from the heights of the Hunsrück to the sunny vineyards on the Moselle, Saar, Ruwer, and Nahe.
