Mettlach Abbey Park

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de With indigenous species as well as trees from all over the world, the park was created by Eugen from Boch around 1850 in the old abbey garden. The pond and the "Homo Ceramicus," a ceramic art work make a perfect image.

The Old Tower

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de The Old Tower is a small chapel built over an octagonal floor plan, erected in the 10th century by Abbot Lioffin. The historical monument is the oldest still existing former church in Saarland.

Benedictine Abbey

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de The abbey was founded by the later Trier Archbishop Lutwin in the 7th century. The baroque structure was built in the 18th century and houses the porcelain manufacturer Villeroy & Boch today.

The Earth Spirit and the largest ceramic puzzle in the world - the "Old Abbey" Park

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de The "World Map of Life," the largest ceramic puzzle in the world and the "Earth Spirit," an ivy statue, 46 ft/14 m high, were created by André Heller for the 2000 World's Fair; both are on view today in Mettlach.

Keravision World at Villeroy & Boch

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de The Keravision documents the 250-year history of the internationally known porcelain manufacturer Villeroy & Boch. The exhibition is dedicated to selected objects of the individual sectors of the company.

Montclair Castle

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de In 1439, the third and last Montclair Castle was built after the original building period in the 10th century. The ruins are still visible today. A castle museum has been created in the cellar, where the history of Montclair is on view.

The fountain by Schinkel in the Abbey park

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de Commissioned by the Prussian crown prince Friedrich Wilhelm, the two-bowl, cast iron fountain was created by the Prussian privy state architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1838.

The Mettlach Lock and Dam

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de As a part of the channeling of the Saar for large ship traffic in the 1980s, one of the locks and dams was constructed in Mettlach, an imposing technical structure. The lock and dam consist of a larger and smaller lock, dam, hydro-electric plant, and fish ladder.

St. Lutwin's Church

www.tourist-info.mettlach.de St. Lutwin's Church was built in neo-Romanesque style around 1900 and is decorated with countless mosaic pictures on the floor, on the walls, and on the ceiling of the choir. The church thus offers a rich palette of local mosaic art unique north of the Alps.
